The Bagel Shop
Homer
Getting up early to head out on a fishing charter in Homer requires serious fuel, and there is no better place in town to grab morning provisions than The Bagel Shop.
Located about three miles east of downtown at the corner of East End Road and Kachemak Drive, The Bagel Shop is a full-scale bakery and café that has mastered the art of the perfect carb. Founded by locals Gabe Chapin and Mikela Aramburu, the shop evolved from a wildly popular pop-up stand at the local farmers market.
New York Style, Alaskan Soul
The Bagel Shop doesn't cut corners. They specialize in true New York City-style bagels—hand-rolled, boiled, and baked using traditional methods to achieve that perfect golden, blistery crust giving way to a dense, chewy center. It's an incredibly difficult texture to nail, but they do it flawlessly every single morning.
Along with the bagels, they offer a massive variety of house-made schmears and towering breakfast sandwiches. They also cater extensively to vegetarians and vegans, with a rotating selection of daily vegan spreads, salads, and soups.
If you want a true local morning experience, grab a coffee, order a massive everything bagel with lox, and enjoy the warm, rustic, bustling atmosphere before hitting the water for the day.
