Alaska Is Home

My introduction to Alaska wasn't through a guidebook; it was through the sights and sounds of the Kodiak coastline and the weight of a Chipmunk .22 rifle my uncle handed me when I was just a kid.

Growing up in the Boy Scouts with my dad meant that “home” was often a canvas tent or a trail marker. Those early days spent chasing grouse and rabbits through the brush weren't just about the hunt - they were about the quiet lessons my dad and uncle passed down. They taught me how to respect the land, how to watch the wind, and how to find my way back when the fog rolls in.

That foundation turned a childhood hobby into a lifelong pursuit. These days, my life is measured in seasons. Whether I'm deep in a bow hunt, patiently managing a bear bait station, or navigating the rugged, wind-swept stretches of the Denali and Dalton Highways, I'm at my most “me” when I'm off the pavement.

Alaska has a way of stripping things down to what matters, and I've spent decades learning its moods.

Working at Ted Stevens

Between my time in the tourism industry at Ted Stevens International Airport, I've spent my entire career at the gateway of the Great Land. I've seen thousands of people arrive with big dreams and even bigger questions.

Working at the airport rental counter gives me a unique vantage point. I'm often the last person someone talks to before they head into the wild. I know the difference between a road that looks fine on a screen and one that will swallow a tire whole, and I take a lot of pride in making sure people are actually prepared for the reality of the North.

When I'm not at the airport, I'm usually loading up the truck for a weekend getaway. I've logged the miles from the Kenai to the Arctic Ocean, not because I had to, but because I wanted to see what was around the next bend.

If you're looking for someone who knows where the pavement ends and the real Alaska begins, I'm always happy to point you in the right direction.
